ORGANIC KHADI COTTON

SOURCED: Aurangabad, Western India
ROOH PIECES: Timeless Collection

Our entire Spring Summer 21 collection is made from hand-woven natural cotton called Khadi, grown near the villages in Aurangabad, Western India.

It is often manufactured in a two-step process. First, the fibre is hand-spun into yarn using a traditional spinning wheel called the “Charka”, and then the yarn is woven into fabrics using looms. These techniques have been practised by hand in India for centuries, making this celebrated art not only ancient but one that still produces high-quality garments.

Organic khadi cotton, a fibre that's grown from the earth is sustainable, biodegradable, and naturally breathable. Because it has been grown organically, that is without artificial chemicals and pesticides added during the fertilisation or growth stage, it uses minimal water and does not cause any irritations or allergies. Conventional cotton uses a lot more water, contributing to one of the concerning factors in wasting resources that our planet currently faces.

We chose to work with organic khadi in particular as it is so versatile - keeping you cool on summer days and warmer in cooler weather. This fabric is absorbent but retains less odour than conventional cotton, reducing its need to be washed after each use. Each piece will last longer and be with you for seasons to come.

Just feeling this fabric in comparison to conventional cotton, cotton blends or artificial fabrics, such as viscose and polyester, alerts you to the quality of organic cotton. It is stronger, anti-static and resistant to stretching and we love using it in our garments.
