Care Instructions

Every Rooh piece is handcrafted from natural fabrics and artisanal finishes. A little care goes a long way — follow the guide for your fabric type below.

This guide applies to Cotton Mul Cotton Linen Cotton Blends
Step 1 Wash
  • Hand wash in cold water only
  • Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent
  • Wash printed pieces separately — colour can transfer to other fabrics
  • Spot clean wherever possible — less washing = longer life
  • Do not soak for extended periods
  • Do not machine wash
  • If hand-dyed: dry clean only — natural dyes will bleed in water
Step 2 Dry
  • Line dry in the shade, or lay flat to dry
  • Do not tumble dry — heat will shrink and damage natural fibres
  • Keep out of direct sunlight — it will fade the fabric over time
Step 3 Iron
  • Iron on the reverse side using medium to warm heat
  • Steaming is safe — especially recommended for linen pieces
  • For printed fabrics: always iron on the reverse, never directly on the print
Step 4 Store
  • Hang or fold depending on the garment's weight
  • Store away from direct sunlight — even indirect prolonged light causes fading
  • Avoid damp areas

Please note: Rooh Collective is not responsible for discolouration caused by sun exposure during storage or wear. Natural fabrics are sensitive to UV light — this is part of what makes them beautiful and alive.

This guide applies to Silk Taffeta Silk Modal Silk Blends Silk Organza

Silk is our most delicate fabric. These pieces need a little more love — but treated well, they'll last a lifetime.

Step 1 Wash
  • Dry clean is strongly recommended — it preserves the structure, sheen, and finish
  • If you must hand wash: use cold water only and a silk-safe detergent
  • Never machine wash
  • Never wring or twist — silk tears easily when wet
Step 2 Dry
  • Air dry in the shade after each wear
  • Do not tumble dry — heat destroys silk fibres
  • To remove excess water, lay on a clean dry towel and gently roll — do not wring
  • Never dry in direct sunlight
Step 3 Iron
  • Use light steam from a distance — do not press the iron directly onto the fabric
  • Do not iron — direct heat will damage the finish and structure of silk
Step 4 Store
  • Use padded hangers to preserve the shape of structured pieces
  • Fold with tissue paper to prevent creasing
  • Avoid cramped or overpacked storage — silk needs space to breathe
  • Store away from direct sunlight — silk yellows and fades quickly

Please note: Rooh Collective is not responsible for discolouration caused by sun exposure. Silk is particularly sensitive to UV light and should always be stored and dried away from direct sunlight.

This guide applies to Modal Modal Satin Viscose Rayon

Modal, Viscose, and Rayon are soft, fluid fabrics that need gentle handling. They are prone to shrinking and losing shape with heat — cold water and careful drying are essential.

Step 1 Wash
  • Dry clean is strongly recommended — it preserves the drape and finish
  • If you must hand wash: use cold water only and a mild, pH-neutral detergent
  • Never machine wash
  • Never wring or twist — these fabrics distort easily when wet
  • Do not soak for extended periods
Step 2 Dry
  • Air dry in the shade after each wear
  • Do not tumble dry — heat will shrink and damage the fibres
  • To remove excess water, lay on a clean dry towel and gently roll — do not wring
  • Never dry in direct sunlight
Step 3 Iron
  • Use light steam from a distance — do not press the iron directly onto the fabric
  • Do not iron — direct heat will damage the drape and finish
Step 4 Store
  • Use padded hangers to preserve the shape of draped pieces
  • Fold with tissue paper to prevent creasing
  • Avoid cramped or overpacked storage — these fabrics need space to breathe
  • Store away from direct sunlight — colours fade and fibres weaken over time

Please note: Rooh Collective is not responsible for discolouration caused by sun exposure. Modal, Viscose, and Rayon are sensitive to UV light and should always be stored and dried away from direct sunlight.

This guide applies to Hand-Dyed Dresses Hand-Dyed Gowns Hand-Dyed Sets & Separates

Natural plant-based dyes are living colours. A small amount of colour change or gentle fading over time is completely normal — it's part of the artisanal process, not a fault. Each piece was dyed by hand and is unique.

Dresses & Gowns

Because of the intensity of the natural dye process used for full gowns and dresses, washing is not recommended.

Cleaning Spot Clean Only
  • Do not wash — neither by hand nor machine
  • Spot clean only when absolutely necessary using a damp cloth and cold water
  • Do not use detergent directly on dyed fabric
Finishing Steam Only
  • Use a garment steamer held at a distance — never touch the fabric with the iron plate
  • No dry iron — direct heat will damage the dye and fabric
Drying Air Only
  • Hang to air in a cool, shaded spot after wearing
  • Never in direct sunlight
Storage Store Carefully
  • Hang on a padded hanger in a cool, dark wardrobe
  • Avoid direct sunlight and heat — both will fade the dye
  • Do not store in plastic bags — fabric needs to breathe

Sets & Separates

Sets and separates can be gently hand washed, but extra care is needed to protect the dye.

Step 1 Wash
  • First wash: separately only — colour will bleed initially
  • Hand wash in cold water
  • Use a mild, pH-neutral or natural detergent
  • Do not soak, scrub, or wring — gently swish and rinse
  • Never machine wash
Step 2 Dry
  • Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade
  • Avoid direct sunlight — it will fade the dye
  • To remove excess water: gently roll the garment in a clean towel and press — do not wring
Step 3 Iron
  • Iron on the reverse side using low to medium heat
  • Use a pressing cloth over darker or dyed areas
  • Steaming is safe — avoid excessive steam to protect dye integrity
Step 4 Store
  • Store in a cool, dark wardrobe
  • Avoid direct sunlight and heat — both accelerate fading
  • Do not store in plastic — fabric needs air circulation

About colour bleed: A small amount of colour bleed during the first wash is completely normal with hand-dyed fabrics. This is not a manufacturing fault — it's the nature of natural plant-based dyes. Always wash separately until the water runs clear.

This guide applies to Printed Dresses Printed Gowns Printed Sets Printed Separates

Our prints are applied using artisanal techniques. Gentle care preserves the vibrancy and detail of the print for years. A small amount of colour bleed during the first wash is expected and reflects the handmade nature of our process.

Step 1 Wash
  • First wash: separately only — colour can transfer to other fabrics
  • Hand wash in cold water only
  • Use a natural or pH-neutral detergent
  • Do not soak, scrub, or wring — gently swish and rinse
  • Never machine wash
Step 2 Dry
  • Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade
  • Avoid direct sunlight — it will fade and crack printed surfaces over time
  • To remove excess water: gently roll in a clean dry towel and press — do not wring
Step 3 Iron
  • Always iron on the reverse side — never directly on the print
  • Use a pressing cloth over printed or darker areas
  • Use low to medium heat
  • Steaming is safe — avoid over-steaming to protect print quality
Step 4 Store
  • Hang or fold in a cool, dark wardrobe
  • Keep out of direct sunlight — UV exposure fades and degrades printed fabric faster than any other cause
  • Avoid damp or humid environments

About colour bleed: Some colour transfer during the first wash is expected and is not a manufacturing fault. It is a natural result of the artisanal printing process. Always wash your piece separately until the water runs fully clear.
