What is International Women's Day?
International Women's Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on the 8th of March as a focal point in the women's rights movement. We celebrate this day and use it to bring attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and discrimination against women.
This year the theme is to #embraceequity where we ask each other to imagine a gender-equal world free of bias and stereotypes, where we can celebrate our differences and value each other's achievements. Find out more about this year's IWD campaign here.
First off, give us something little about you and then what your favourite thing is about being a woman.
STEPH - born and bred in Sydney and loves shaking a spicy marg!
I love the community we have built for each other where women support other women, and I believe together we can do amazing things, not only in business but all aspects of life. I'm a new mama myself and the amazing women I have in my life and have met since have been so supportive in my motherhood journey.
MEENU (Akshay's Mum) - I love cooking a family-famous Pasta bake with Stracciatella cheese on Sunday lunch with family & friends.
Born and raised in India, I believe it is harder for us to succeed in the business world than it is for men here. However, it takes strength and perseverance to fight for what you believe in and work through the tough times that will ultimately make you stronger and more resilient as a woman.
SHIVANI - I have loved working in Meenuji’s studio for the past 12 years, I have learnt so many new skills including stitching, hand embroidery and quilting.
I love that our bodies are built to do amazing things like growing other humans. I have 3 children and bringing them into this world and raising them has been my biggest blessing and achievement.
GITA - I left my family when I was 20 and have been experiencing life in Mumbai for over 8 years. Since then, I have been married and blessed with a young daughter. I love being a woman and part of a hard-working community that ensures all your pieces are perfect.
One of my favourite things is that we can multitask, work full-time jobs and ensure our household is also maintained. I feel supported, and proud to be an equal breadwinner so my children can go to school and join tuition. I am a mother of three and love them dearly, my oldest daughter (10) is such a great help in and around the house.
