Inspired By You: Danielle Milojevic

Forever inspired by the incredible women who wear our pieces, we want them to feel unique, powerful and use their clothing as an outlet to express their truest selves.

An incredible artist and designer, Danielle Milojevic is the founder and talent behind Aloft Studios. We were lucky enough to work with her on our latest chapter of our Serendipity collection, where she designed our beautiful Zephyr print. We wanted to get to know her better and find out what really inspires her to create the most beautiful designs, used by some very influential Australian brands.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for work?

I am so privileged to say that I draw for a living. I get to create art and textiles for established and emerging brands and along the way meet some incredible people all over Australia and even internationally.

It all started as soon as I could hold a pencil, you would find me drawing and painting in the backyard as a child. After finishing school I studied both fine arts and design for live production theatre and events, my most favoured mediums were drawing, painting and ceramics.

Can you tell us a bit about Aloft Creative Studios and how it came to be?

Aloft Studios was born out of the desire to express myself creatively and be at the forefront of conceptualising and designing. I love having a hands-on approach with my clients and helping bring to life their collections.

Considering we are spending more time at home, what rituals have you picked up during the past year?

Definitely my sunrise walks. Most mornings you will find me down the beach with my bulldog Bonni catching the sunrise above the ocean. It’s a moment that I take for myself, I find it really helps to set me up for the day ahead.

How do you gather inspiration for your designs?

I draw inspiration from both past and present. My favourite source of influence would certainly be from vintage archives. Trawling through these treasures would be one of my favourite past times. I approach my designs and concepts with a blend of bold highlights and a highly detailed vintage-inspired aesthetic.

We can see that you have just set up your new studio, how did you go about designing this space?

I love curating spaces from vintage furniture with the addition of some contemporary pieces. My studio space was designed around my favourite antique desk. There’s something special about thoughtfully crafted furnishings that I’m obsessed with!

How do you practice sustainability in your everyday life?

I choose to support smaller businesses that share the same morals and values as me, because sustainability is important. Rather than buying often, I try to buy quality over quantity and upcycle where I can. It’s been great to see the fashion industry evolve and gravitate to more sustainable practices, there are some emerging brands that are really taking the reigns in this space and showing what we all can really do as an industry to help support sustainability.
