Modern Fashion industry uses fabric that are treated with harmful toxins, fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides. As indicated in the studies, these chemicals are not only harmful to our environment but also have long term negative impacts on our planet.  With this in mind, we only source fabrics that are produced with minimal to non-impact on our planet.

 Organic "Khadi" Cotton

Our entire Summer/Spring collection is made from hand-woven natural cotton called "Khadi", from the villages near Aurangabad in Western India. This fabric is very versatile and keep you cool in summer and warmer in the cooler days. In addition to that, there are many other benefits one can gain from wearing natural fibres. They are not only biodegradable and breathable but also absorbent. Another reason we have chosen the Khadi cotton as it is anti-static and resistant to stretching.
Organic Cotton is a natural and breathable fiber that doesn’t cause any irritation or allergies. Along with its versatility which adapts itself from season to season, this fabric also retains odour less than conventional cotton, reducing its need to be washed after each use, serving exceptionally longer usage.
Part of the decision in using this natural and raw fabric is to support artisanal communities in this particular region of India.

Organic Linen

We love Linen because of its versatile and durable properties. It is fully breathable and gentle on the skin. It is a light weight fabric which dries quickly, perfect for women who are always on the go! Linen is also a heat conductive, meaning that it will keep you cool and comfortable and dry in the heat when the temperature falls. At Rooh, all our linen is sourced from the farms near the city of Kochi, South India.
This fabric is woven from flax plants. This plant is a far more sustainable option as it requires minimal water and each part of the plant has a use. Flax is perhaps very well-known in our sustainable fashion industry as it is also fully biodegradable and can be easily recycled.

Natural Silk Satin

In our Autumn/Winter ’21 collection, we sourced a blend of organic cotton and organic silk satin. This fabric does not contain any harmful toxins, colorants or dyes and is 100% natural. The organic cotton/silk blend possesses breathability quality just as the cotton and that soft feel from the Assam silk, giving our pieces a luxurious feel, which makes it a perfect option for our pieces. This fabric is sourced from Kamrup district, East India.

As our aim is to produce pieces that are long-lasting and durable, our pieces are made from high quality fabrics and express respect and compassion from seed to stitch. At Rooh, we will continue to search for initiatives that create jobs and use processes and materials that are much more sustainable.
